Safe Buying Guide

At Ace Safes we have nearly 30 years of experience in the Safe Industry and we are more than happy to answer your questions if you are looking to buy a safe.

Any decision to purchase a safe normally falls into two categories:
1) A voluntary purchase for peace of mind to secure cash, documents or data.
2) As an insurance company requirement where a stipulated grade of safe has been requested.

In all cases, we will assist in the most cost conscious choice of safes, with fast delivery of safes to sites anywhere in the UK.

Reconditioned Safes

All of our reconditioned safes are treated with the highest quality reconditioned to a British Standard (BS7582). In order to recondition the safe it is stripped back to base metal to make sure it has never been in a fire, drilled or compromised in any way. The unit is then primed up and re-sprayed to the customer's choice.

The inner working of the safe door is then attended to and all moving parts are checked to ensure good working order. Any anti-explosive devices that protect the lock in the event of an attack are serviced and checked to ensure efficiency. Locks are reconditioned or if unduly worn, they are replaced with a similar model, be it key locking, combination or digital.

The bolts and hinges of the door are lubricated to ensure easy operation.

The safe details are then recorded and the service logged.

All of our reconditioned safes then carry either a three, six or twelve month warranty on all moving parts.

New Safes

Depending on how safes perform, during simulated attack, they will attain the Eurograde label badge which is then able to be attached to each model clearly identifying its grade (cash rating), year of manufacture and weight.

The Eurograde model cash ratings are:

  • '0' £6,000 cash limit
  • '1' £10,000 cash limit
  • '2' £17,500 cash limit
  • '3' £35,000 cash limit
  • '4' £60,000 cash limit
  • '5' £100,000 cash limit
  • '6' £150,000 cash limit

When looking at a new safe for commercial premises please be aware that insurers may multiply by up to 5 times to give a content cover other than cash. For instance, £10,000 cash cover will give you £50,000 jewellery cover. In domestic situations, they multiply the cash cover by ten, ie £10,000 cash, £100,000 jewellery cover.

The object of a Graded safe is to ensure that insurers/underwriters must accept the cash rating guidelines set independently by the ABI (Association of British Insurers). In practice this also means that if you buy a Chubbsafes Eurograde 1 (for example) in England and you move to another European country, the same insurance cash rating should be recognised. The Ace Safe Co Ltd can supply new and reconditioned safes throughout Europe and the rest of the World.

Some manufacturers produce new safes at cash limits lower than Eurograde levels, in these instances, the safe manufacturer will seek individual guidance for its cash levels from major insurance companies. This means that certain safe manufacturer models are perfectly acceptable for limits up to £10,000. However, individual insurance companies may vary in their rating of each safe model.
